British pork certified under the Red Tractor scheme delivers consistent quality and assured safety. All British pork production adheres to the rigorous standards set by the Red Tractor assurance programme—the UK’s largest farm and food certification scheme. Covering every stage of food production, Red Tractor establishes stringent requirements and serves as a trusted benchmark for retailers and consumers alike.
The UK has developed a robust, high-integrity meat production system. Despite ongoing price pressures and evolving global demand, UK pork trade volumes remained resilient in 2024, underpinned by steady growth in domestic output. Pork production increased by nearly 4% year-on-year, reaching 960,800 tonnes, helping to reduce reliance on imports. In terms of exports, total volume remained largely unchanged at 298,100 tonnes for the year. Notably, exports of pig offal performed exceptionally well, increasing by 9,300 tonnes, driven primarily by strong demand from China and the Philippines. China imported 120,100 tonnes of British pork in 2024, of which 65% consisted of pig offal.
From feed sourcing and livestock rearing to transportation, slaughter, cutting, processing, and packaging, every link in the supply chain undergoes rigorous inspection to ensure compliance with strict standards on animal welfare, food safety, traceability, and environmental sustainability.
